More on uCONVERT 2.3.07

We thought you’d bring you some more information about the next version of uCONVERT along with an estimated release date.

First of all we’ve pushed back our release date after being notified of a bug in the favorites system that can cause incorrect information after currencies are updated. We’ve reworked the favorites system for the next version of uCONVERT so these problems will be eliminated, but it does mean that you will lose saved favorites from uCONVERT versions 2.2.x and below.

We’ve also got another language to add to uCONVERT – Portuguese (pt) – bringing the total number of languages in uCONVERT 2.3.0 to 10.

New units

Volume

  • Centiliters
  • Deciliters
  • Decaliters
  • Ettoliters

Area

  • Ares

Energy

  • Barrel of Oil Equivalent

Length

  • Decimeters
  • Decameters

Pressure

  • Millimeters of Mercury

We’ve had a request or two for a more-feature rich calculator in the program. Our main problem is not the calculator and functions itself, but how to create quick and useful shortcuts between the calculator and converter display without cluttering the UI. The popup menu is already large enough – we could remove some of the calculator functions from the converter display to make room for some new UI buttons, since these would now be present in the calculator display.

Either way let us know what you think in the comments – you can help make uCONVERT better!

Release Date

You can get your hands on the next version of uCONVERT on Friday the 26th of Feb, we’ll bring you all the news when it happens.

My idea is to drag the Keypad left or right to change between calculator and converter display.
Also, I miss a function to delete the last entered number. (held down, it could erase the whole number)
Another idea is the Option to change the decimal separator and the group separator (I write numbers like 1.234,56 instead of 1,234.56)

I am a medical doctor. I am using and HTC HD2, and your program looks great on it.

Would it be possilbe to add a mmHg to kPa conversion as this is the common practice in medicine. I also like 3 of 8 of a combination of calculator and converter. Perhaps when switching to calculator mode the spinning wheels can be used to select parameters in a formula. This would be interesting for medical formula’s, such as:

BMI, Date calculation, kidney function, Wells criteria for DVT and PE, EMV score, CHAD score, cholesterol ratio, Burns score, Fluid therapy equations, concentration to dose converstions, and more.

    Thank you in advance.

    • Hi Wevenhuis,
      Thanks for commenting!

      1. mmHg to kPa conversion – definitely look at adding this after uCONVERT 2.3.0
      2. We hear you, we’re going to post a couple of concept shots after uCONVERT 2.3.0 to get feedback on different interface designs. We’re thinking along the lines of 3 screens: Converter, Calculator and Advanced Converter.

      Converter
The usual screen you know and love, minus the calculator buttons

      Calculator
Would have the calculator buttons which would be removed from the calculator screen, 2-line display, other functions such as sine/cosine log/ln

      Advanced Converter
For more complicated conversions that require 2 inputs to get a result

We hope to get a good link between the converter and the two other screens such that you can perform (relatively) complex calculations in the calculator screen and transport the number to the other two screens.

More info after uCONVERT 2.3.0 is released.
